Save Me Charlie Character Analysis
Charlie is a teenager entering high school, but is it introverted person at school and at home. He meets new friends that are not of his age group, is invited to many social events, and throughout his life he has many memories in which he does not understand until later. When he meets Sam, his life changes completely, which is why Save me by BTS represents Charlie’s emotions throughout the novel, by illustrating Charlie’s strong desire for Sam, his need to have someone as guidance or as friend, and his impulse to comprehend the world around him. Charlie is affected by many people in the novel, but the person who had one of the most impact on him was Sam. For example, the Secret Santa at Sam and Patrick’s place, Charlie had a present
for Sam, in which he had given thought for quite some time. For Charlie, this present meant so much to him because it was an old record he enjoyed listening to and even stated, “ When (he) met someone (he) thought was as beautiful as the song, (he) should give it to that person” (Chbosky, 68). Charlie loved Sam not only because of her looks, but for every detail inside and out that made up Sam for who she is. He knew Sam would understand his problems and never judge him for being himself and was guide to him throughout the novel. In fact, because of Sam, Charlie gained the confidence and capability to open up to others and try to socialize with people without having to worry about how he acts. In Save me, J-hope, or Jung Hoseok, says, “ I knew that your salvation is a part of my life, and the only helping hand that will embrace my pain,” which relates to Charlie because Sam was a salvation for him, and the person which made him realize the truths of many situations in his life. Charlie had lived through many traumas as a child, which made him a quiet, and weird person. He did not have any friends or family to guide him through such a time in his life, and was at a lost.
