1. The Scarlet Ibis is set on a farm, in North Carolina, in 1980. Also, the short story is set in the beginning of summer.
2. The narrator wishes for a brother who he can play, swim, run and do many more activities with.
3. When Doodle sees Old Woman Swamp, he stares at the scenery in wonder and appreciation. However, immediately after Doodle begins to cry. Such communicates to the reader that Doodle is an inquisitive child, as well as explains his feelings of vulnerability.

When Doodle and his brother were preparing their family for the surprise that Doodle could walk, Aunt Nicey said that they talked about it so much that she would be disappointed if it was anything less than the Resurrection. The resurrection signifies Jesus rising from the dead up to Heaven, which provides for an afterlife for those who follow God’s word.
d. Aunt Nicey prayed when they discovered Doodle could walk.
12. When the Scarlet Ibis dies, the reader senses as if Doodle feels directly impacted by the death, in the sense that he sees himself in the Scarlet Ibis. Following the death, Doodle buries the Scarlet Ibis in the front yard.
13. Doodle dies because when the storm arrives, in a rush of anger, the brother abandons Doodle in the storm. When he returns, he finds Doodle dead beside the road, with blood staining his mouth and front. Such communicates that Doodle died from over exhaustion and body failure.
14. Doodle is extremely similar to the Scarlet Ibis, as they both are fragile and different compared to their surroundings. As well, the Scarlet Ibis dies from exhaustion after traveling through a storm, similar to how Doodle dies from the exhaustion of trying to be similar to those around him. Also, they are alike as when both die, they are associated with the colour red and described in positions that sound
