Sometimes, wrong judgement is dangerous, and in Scat, Duane Jr. is framed for arson. Because of his rough image, Nick suspects Duane, even though he’s innocent. Nick decides to look deeper into the case when Duane Jr. sincerely says, “I didn’t do that fire.”(pg. 216). Hiaasen shows that making conclusions too early is irresponsible,
as Duane could have been called guilty if nobody believed him. Because everyone has more than one trait, it’s important to go deeper than the surface in understanding them.
