Scene Analysis: The Circumstance In The Scene

The given circumstance in this scene is a break up between Javier and Caroline. The previous scene begins with Caroline trying to know where Javier’s new apartment is, resulting in Javier giving an answer that shifts the emotion of the characters compare to the prior scene. What began as an awkward conversation, led to an argument in which both characters brought up many feelings that one another weren’t necessarily aware about.
I am Caroline, I am twenty-eight years old and I live with my mother and father. I was in a relationship with Javier who happened to be younger than me, but we broke up after we noticed how distinctive we were. I enjoy the life of the party, as well as smoking. I lived in an abusive household, where my father would physically hurt my mother. Before my break up with Javier, I use to depend on him to help me feel safe. Although my father was an abusive man, he viewed my ex-Javier as a nice and thoughtful young man. After my break up with Javier, I stopped drinking and finally had the courage to stand up to my father and his abusive manner. I still get high, and that’s the way I enjoy life.
Javier uses this as an excuse to finally speak the truth on the way he feels with the relationship. This results in Caroline figuring why exactly Javier was acting so distant with her. She figures out the truth on his true feelings, and expressed his perspective on the relationship in which he felt as he was, “(her) parent and you were my retarded teenage daughter!” (Rivera 230).
