The costuming for the performance is based on typical 1960’s fashion. The men begin by wearing velvet jackets, colourful shirts and tight pants, all in a range of different colours (except red). Their hair is slicked back and they are wearing ties. They are made to look very dressed up as if they were going out to a club or party in the 1960’s. The women begin the performance dressed identical to one another in short, sleeveless black and red dresses.…

The costume and makeup design was done by students of the high school, which may be the reason why this category was nothing extravagant. The Drama Geeks where dressed in bright and fun street clothing, which most likely came from the actor’s personal closets. The cheerleaders on the other hand really lacked in costumes, they did not…

During the Elizabethan Age, there were social classes that consisted of the upper, middle, and lower class. Each social class’ wardrobe depended on the Sumptuary Laws. The Sumptuary Laws were a set of restrictions that were placed, depending on the social class, to regulate luxury and extravagance. Pullman Porter Blues written by Cheryl L. West with Constanza Romero as a customer designer. The story of Pullman Porter Blues is about a luxurious train that travels from Chicago to New Orleans and the people on it explore the themes of class and race. In my opinion, Constanza Romero did a very good job in designing costume because the costume matches the play very well by using color, texture, and silhouette.…

The coming together of this project has really taught me a lot about the theater world as well as learning about just people in general. Why they do what they do, why they wear what they wear, and how to piece them together based solely on how they present themselves. In the coming together of my costumes for Joe Turner’s Come and Gone I first took the time to reread the play, get a feel for each character, their personalities, what other plays, TV shows or movies I could compare it to and what colors and patterns come to mind when visioning each person. When breaking all those aspects down I focused mostly on the show “Good Times”. “Good times” is pretty much around the same time period; some of the characters, for example, Zonia and Penny are similar in certain ways! They both are little children who don’t have the best of the best but their parents make sure they looked presentable. Or Florida Evans from “Good Times” who could be compared to Bertha, the mother of the house; they were both the furthering type, always there to support the young ones, give advice, and cook the meals.…

The Victorian Age, a time that is commonly known throughout history for its stoicism of dress for women and men. The women and men of the Victorian age all dressed in ways that covered their entire bodies. The men wore suits, while the women wore dresses that were extremely modest. However, in the movie The Young Victoria the director chose to have the men were dressing in what would be considered proper Victorian standards for men. However, Queen Victoria and the women of Royalty dresses in ball gowns that revealed a significant amount of skin, while the servants and lesser class also dressed in proper Victorian garb. This paper will look at the significance of the costume choices for women, and the possible reasons for why the director chose…

The purpose of the dress code is to have a better understanding that students do not come here to show off their style, but to come here to learn and get a better education. Students fail to realize the difference between dressing for success and dressing to impress. Dress code is nothing new to our society; many jobs require you to wear certain types of clothing or a uniform. Therefore, these schools are simply preparing their students to have a successful and bright future. Students should be more concerned about what they can learn, not what they can or cannot wear. Education is what motivates student’s people to the top of the platform their wardrobe. “Be careless in your dress if you will, but keep a tidy soul (Twain)”. Students should beware, their future will not depend on…

The Elizabethan era was a time period centered around the life of Queen Elizabeth I’s reign (1558-1603). This period in time is considered the peak of English history and is the beginning of when people began to think and believe differently. That brought along changes in the way people dressed. How people, particularly rich ones, dressed was just another way for them to express themselves. Social classes are also very much prominent in the era. These social classes influenced the fashion of the Elizabethan era. This is shown in men’s and women’s clothes, shoes, hats, and accessories in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. (Whitmore, Deanne)…

I chose the Sparkle Chambray Top because of it's casual look, but loved the ruffle detail and the sparkle embellishments that also said "holidays". I then added the pleated skirt which also has the sparkle waistband, and while it's totally girly, it can be dressed up or down with a pair of tights. To layer, I added the Sparkle Fair Isle Poncho. Now I just love ponchos, but I especially love the Fair Isle designs because of the holiday flair it…

Have you ever wondered how the theater become so popular? People will think that it was because of Hollywood or some other thing, but it started on the eastern side of the world. There was a movement called the Renaissance, and that movement created theaters and many other things that people enjoy in our modern world. There were many theaters during the Renaissance, but one of the greatest known theaters were the Elizabethan theaters. The Elizabethan theater would not become a spectacular place for entertainment if it was for a new time period, the playwrights, and the theater’s design and features.…

    Stage Beauty

“Stage Beauty” explores the boundaries between reality and performance. It’s the 1660s, and Edward ‘Ned’ Kynaston is England’s most celebrated leading lady. Women are forbidden to appear on stage and Ned profits, using his beauty and skill to make the great female roles his own. But King Charles II is tired of seeing the same old performers in the same old tragedies. Since no one will take him up on his suggestion to improve Othello with a couple of good jokes, he decides to lift the royal palate by allowing real women to tread the boards. In a slightly less progressive spirit, he rules that men may no longer play women’s parts. I find it hilarious, that such a prudish society who are against homosexuality and such things as women acting, will find it ok to have a bunch of men pretending to be women and having, well not physical love scenes, but professing romantic poetry to other men.…

The costumes were amazing and accurately portrayed for the play and each character. Because they were apart of an orphanage and very poor their costumes were raggedy and old and used. Yet, even though the costumes weren't the prettiest they even fit each character perfectly. The sweet little girl of the show had on old girly clothes. With brighter, but murkier colorings to it because of its elderliness and since it was most likely the older girls clothes before…
