A) Fact-Finding Techniques
To study any system the analyst needs to do collect facts and all relevant information. the facts when expressed in quantitative form are termed as data. The success of any project is depended upon the accuracy of available data. Accurate information can be collected with help of certain methods/ techniques. These specific methods for finding information of the system are termed as fact finding techniques. Interview, Questionnaire, Research, Observations and Examining documentation are the different fact finding techniques used by the analyst. The analyst may use more than one technique for investigation.
B) Advantage
Interview
It is useful to obtain detailed information about personal feelings, perceptions and opinions. It also allows more detailed questions to be asked and usually achieve a high response rate. Respondents' own words are also recorded. Furthermore, precise wording can be tailored to respondent and precise meaning of questions clarified (e.g. for students with English as a Second Language). Interviewees are also not influenced by others in the group and some interviewees may be less self-conscious in a one-to-one situation.
Questionnaire
Large amounts of information can be collected from a large number of people in a short period of time and in a relatively cost effective way. This technique can also be carried out by the researcher or by any number of people with limited affect to its validity and reliability. The results of the questionnaires can usually be quickly and easily quantified by either a researcher or through the use of a software package. It can be analysed more 'scientifically' and objectively than other forms of research.
When data has been quantified, it can be used to compare and contrast other research and may be
