Requesting time off from work can result in termination or reprimanded by their boss. Instead, these parents use their days off from work for emergencies. Some parents are residing in a single parent household. Therefore, they are the sole provider for their family. Without the support from additional family members, these parents are unable to be as involved in their child’s school activities. Parents are not guarantee to receive financial reimbursement on their day away from work. During my school counseling internship, I managed the high school articulation process. There were students that needed help with the application process and selecting schools. They were unable to receive that assistance from their parents due to their work schedule or the parents were not familiar with the high school process. Automatically, I understood the parent’s point of view without judgment. Therefore, I explain to process to the students so they can rely the information to their parents and helped the students select school that they were interesting in and were eligible for the criteria. The buildings are in horrible conditions and are under staff. Classroom sizes remain the same size while the number of students per class is increasing. As a result, the school is limited with their resources such as textbooks to provide for their students. The students are using old textbooks that are in unacceptable condition. Students are deprived from receiving or having access to resources and technology. Students disadvantaged to certain opportunities due to the lack of funding in their schools. Schools receive funds from their neighborhoods and community. Urban schools located in areas that are considered in poverty will have a difficult time funding their schools. A deficient in funding means that the students are not granted numerous extra curricular activities in their schools. The students are enrolled in their core classes and are not given the opportunity to explore other educational classes because school do not have to funds to support these classes. Students attending urban schools with limited resources have to work twice as hard to obtain information or be on an equal playing field as students from an elite
