What are you doing to help our environment? Are you recycling because it positively impacts the environment, or are you recycling because it is trendy? According to Alex Williams essay, “Buying into the Green Movement,” companies are turning an environmental movement into a fashion statement. Many people are only buying eco-friendly products because television and magazines advertise the movement as a new trend. The eco-friendly fashion statement is actually making consumers buy more, which defeats the purpose of conserving our planet. Although it is important to buy and pay attention to economically efficient products, sometimes less is actually more. The essay argues that many people are not cutting back on their usage of day-to-day items. William’s essay strongly shows his passion about the subject. Williams is able to persuade his audience to consume less through his use of logos by stating facts, using ethos to…

The essay Environmental Justice by Robert D. Bullard and Glenn S. Johnson explored many different aspects of environmental justice issue in the United States. They specifically looked at how communities of color have been specifically targeted for sites toxic waste dumps and other environmental hazards. A phenomenon known as environmental racism. Additionally, how grassroots organizations have had success fighting for the rights for the people in lower-class communities, as well for people of color. Corporations in their quest to provide products to the American people, and their bigger desire to make as much money as possible.…
1. This article by Plaven highlights the issues that the Native Americans in Oregon are facing. They are trying to change the rules and laws that would benefit the earth. They’re worried that climate change is going to make food scarce as well as other environmental problems. Plaven refers to the fish in the rivers, and how the population of certain fish has decreased. The fish are described as being scarce are being minimized by lower water levels in the river, and hot temperatures (Plaven 1). The tribes contribute these environmental issues to the shortage of salmon and Steelheads (Plaven 1). The hot temperatures are also being blamed for fires in the region. The fires burn tribal crops, and threatens the tribal lands. The lands where the…
The issue I chose to write about is health and the significant impact that it has on millions across the world in our society. In relation to the environment, there are certain types of health risks that can play a major part such as: cancer, mortality, certain disabilities, and how all of these things are managed on a consistent basis. These environmental issues affect everyone, not just one particular person or type of group amongst us all. For this reason alone, it is imperative to bring light to each individual situation and develop some sort of change to create a basic balance throughout the world. There are many causes that make these issues prevalent such as toxins that pollute…
Recycling is one clear response households have taken to combat this. But the issue is much more complex than the presumed problem of landfills and the feel good solution of separating your plastics from metals.…
Over the years people have lost more and more care for the Earth and it is suffering the consequences of this neglect. A bad stewardship of the planet makes it respond with problems such as Air Pollution, Global warming, Water Pollution, overpopulation, etc. We think that as stewards of the planet we have the rights to do what we want with it, but this is damaging it, and us as well. We are the only ones here with the power and capability to change this, and there are certain estrategies that we can implement in order to make a positive impact on our Earth's water, land, and air.…

Ecological assessment are extremely important in knowing how an ecosystem works and how works in the world surrounding it. Agencies around the world conduct ecological assessments to find out how an ecosystem functions and how it is structures in order to know how to manage the ecosystem and the things that are inhabiting it. By doing an ecological assessment at Kent State I hope to learn more about how the ecosystems here work, since Kent State is my new home. With these results that I get from doing this assessment I hope to be able to see how areas on campus differ and how they are structured differently along with how they need to be taken care of, compared to the areas surrounding the campus. The ecological assessment that I conducted…
For my time spent doing community service, I chose the Urban Ecology Center. I was mainly interested in the field research opportunities as they pertained to my education in Natural Science as well as my own personal passions and interest. The Urban Ecology Center is a community built organization, which gives back to the environment, educates children on being conscious of the environment as well as provides a public space for any one to come and be a part of the goings on or just hang out and use the facilities. The Urban Ecology Center at Riverside Park is where I spent most of my volunteer hours, the building is more adequate for school groups and…
EFFECTS OF GEOGRAPHICS AND RECYCLING Abstract Research was conducted to determine if recycling participation is affected based on where an individual lives and/or where they grew up. Many psychological and sociological studies have looked into the human behavior of recycling; what drives an individual to recycle and what are the key components to a successful recycling program. Results have shown that people with access to a structured recycling program have much higher levels of recycling than do people lacking such access. Furthermore, individual attitudes toward the environment affect recycling behavior only in the community with easy access to a structured recycling program.…
The largest environmental issue that is effecting the global climate change specially in Canadian society would be global warming. Although global warming and its effects are taking place all around the world, a huge part of the ramifications that we are seeing are taking part in Canada. Global warming has lead to many environmental problems including the melting of the north pole and northern areas as well as forest fires and animal extinction. All of these sub-topics, although speaking specifically to Canada in this research essay, these environmental problems will not only happen throughout the rest of the world but some will possible even create a domino effect.…
