Introduction The following is a case study of the benefits of utilizing cloud computing in the public sector. "Cloud computing has the potential to greatly reduce waste, increase data center efficiency and utilization rates, and lower operating costs."(Kundra, 2010) Using the CIO Council 's 2010 document titled State of Public Sector Cloud Computing, this case study will match 10 of its case study examples with the nine benefits from the Federal Cloud Computing Strategy (Cloud First Policy). In further detail the case study of the Social Security Administration - Online Answers Knowledgebase and its benefits will be discussed.

Social Security Administration - Online Answers Knowledgebase (SOASK)
AGILITY IMPROVEMENTS Every year the Social Security Administration(SSA) answers millions of citizens questions and inquiries. Online, the agency provides a database of Frequently Asked Questions that in 2009 grew to over 34 million answers. Agility improvements within the SSA have made services more responsive.
ENHANCE SERVICE EFFECTIVENESS The cloud-based solution, SOASK, allows online visitors to search for answers to thousands of questions by category, keyword or phrase and the SSA keeps the information up-to-date and relevant.
As a result, the innovation improvements rapidly enhance service effectiveness.
MORE SCALABLE "Given current agency staffing levels, it would not have been possible for office staff and 800-number agents to answer even 10 percent of these additional inquiries."(Kundra, 2010) The internet cloud-based solution has allowed the SSA services to become more scalable without negatively impacting the in-office services.
Conclusion
This section provides a summary of why cloud computing is greatly benefited in the public sector. "Cloud computing will enable a fundamental shift in how we serve the American people."(Kundra, 2011) Like the Social Security Administration, implementing cloud computing strategies in other public sectors such as schools and DOD organizations can and will increase agility improvements, enhance service effectiveness, allow for more scalable services and much more. "Cloud computing will not just be more innovative than we imagine; it will be more than we can imagine."(Kundra,
2011)
