SCISSION ORAL PRESENTATION –GETTING AHEAD
1. Choose a story which has been narrated into the world of one of the characters. Retell the story from the point of view of another character?
It had been three years after my husband’s death, and I had began to have ideas, ideas the children wouldn’t understand. As the littlies were put to bed I would sit there thinking, and one night it finally hit me. Be healthy, be organized, be careful and get ahead in life. I wrote these ideas on a Scott Towel and stuck it on the fridge. The kids seemed dumbfounded but I would soon explain to them the situation at hand, and what we needed to do in order to get ahead. I realized I had to be smart with what I did and so I had bought a Dymo Labeller with the savings in the vegemite jar. Though it seemed like I was wasting what money we had left, the Dymo Labeller was needed for labels, adhesive checklists and what not for things to make us safe and duties to be done. I soon explained to the kids that we had to get ahead in life, and it had become the main topic whenever there was a conversation between us. Then I had finally thought it was time to tell them that we’d be moving into a flat. They seemed to dislike this idea but it was just for a little while, just to get ahead, and finally they agreed. Millicent cried when we had moved out, and I told her it was just till we get ahead, trying to convince myself too. As time went by nothing seemed to happen with the renting. The garden became run-down and cats began to congregate on the verandah, and we were anything but getting ahead. I kept telling myself that we’d only have to wait a while longer to have progress, to get ahead, but it seemed as though the rent would never arrive. Mrs. Marsdale, our tenant came for an inspection of the house recently where we exchanged greetings but she seemed to be unaware of our presence but more interested in the house which was actually a huge disappointment.
