For those of you, who are new to Scotland.. Let me formally introduce you to them, Johnny Walker!!! Chivas Regal!!! yes! yes! i know it rings a bell… Scotland has been very famous for its scotch blend of whiskey (well not just that but) throughout the world people relish their brews and its popularity, even if they forget Edinburgh (Capital) and Unicorn
(National Animal). I know what you are thinking Unicorns don’t exist, I know! but thats a story for another time. Scotland as we know it is a Country that is part of the United Kingdom and covers the northern third of the island of Great Britain, it shares a border with England to the south, and is otherwise surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, With the North Sea to the east and the North Channel and Irish Sea to the southwest. In addition to the mainland, the country is made up of more than 790 islands including the Northern Isles and the Hebrides. (Wikipedia)
The Great Britain is a geographical term rather than a country and refers to the colorful segment of the map to the left, the non white area. The white sovereign state is The Republic of
Ireland that was granted Independence from the UK in 1922.
The British Isles is not all England, (It’s better we learned it today!). Firstly, England as you might think is actually, the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (or UK).
The Official capital is London and the Head of the State is The
Queen, Elizabeth II.
The current Head of the
Government is David
Cameron. The United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland uses as its national flag the royal banner known as the Union Jack or the
Union Flag as shown in the picture.
The UK is split into four, these entities are called countries but you can think of them as states, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
