Seahorse Research Paper

Many people may not know that seahorses are a type of fish. Their scientific name is Hippocampus, Hippo which means “horse and campus meaning sea monster. Seahorses average life span in the wild is about 1 to 5 years and they range from size 0.6 in to 14 in. Seahorses are very slow, they have a top speed of about 5 feet per hour (3). Seahorses are found in shallow areas, near the coral reefs, seagrass beds etc. They swim by using small fins on their back and behind their heads. Seahorses are the only species on earth where the male gives birth (3). Although, they don’t physically look like a fish they share some characteristics with them. These characteristics can be found in the following, digestive system, circulatory system, and nervous system.
Their circulatory system involves the pump of blood through the heart at once, this is because the seahorses has a very tiny structured body. The heart consists of four parts, two chambers, an entrance, and an exit, which is like most fishes. The nervous system of a seahorses is very small (4). Due to the fact that they live in shallow water will low currents, they have evolved to develop their dorsal fin and pectoral fins, which are the primary locomotive organs in sea
