Sean O Keeefe Chapter Summary
Through out this book Sean and Charlotte O’Keefe provided advocacy for Willow in several ways. The most obvious way Charlotte provided advocacy for Willow was by suing Piper not because if she would have known sooner she may have changed her mind about Willow, but because she wanted the money for Willows sake. Charlotte wanted the money for Willow so she would not have to worry about anything especially medical expenses in her life. Before the lawsuit when they were in Disney Sean was outraged when the family was separated due to Willow slipping on a napkin in the Disney Park. Though the hospital, policemen and family services were just doing their job, Sean could not forgive and forget. This is started the uprising of the lawsuit. He wanted
to sue over ruining their vacation as well as traumatizing his daughter and stepdaughter over being separated as well as being accused of child abuse. Another way they provided advocacy for Willow is when she was in the cast after her fall in Disney Charlotte and Sean did/provided everything they could for Willow so that she was comfortable and could still do some things without feeling “broken”. Though this example is not specifically about Willow it is still about their daughter, Amelia. When Willow was brought in for harming herself, attention was finally brought to Amelia. Right away Charlotte and Sean came together to make sure Amelia got help and to do so they get her treatment. Though these are only a few examples of how the parents provided advocacy for their daughters, as you read through the book you learn more about the parent’s unconditional love for their daughters in different ways. This book was a good read but at times got me emotional. Though this book is not based on anyone specific or is based off a true story it is hard to even think that some parents have gone through something like this. It opened my eyes and helped me learned that though life gives you obstacles families like the O’Keefe family make the best of what they have as well as a few mistakes along the way.
