From what I understand the Victim who had been raped and beaten by seven was sentenced to 90 lashes by the judge in the Saudi Court and during that time the Victim’s lawyer then spoke out and said that it was practically to harsh of a punishment and at that time the Victim was then awarded 200 lashes because apparently you not speak out against the decision. The Lawyer has even been punished for speaking to the media about the appeal of the case and he is currently awaiting his punishment. There are many things wrong in my opinion with this case as well as the Saudi Government. The Government seems to be in some kind of Absolutism, or high power over the people. There seems to be no kind of free speech and equal protection due to the fact that the Victim was a woman. There is no kind of rights. The Victim was doomed out of the gate because in this kind of case there should never be any kind of punishment towards someone who was beat and raped by several men. The fact that punishment was given just goes to show that there is no kind of rights at all in this country. It clearly seems that nothing good can come from here.
The United States Government would look at her like she is an individual and they would look at her as a true victim. All the rights that are given to men directly apply to women in this country as well. There would be no kind of trouble for her since she was with a strange male, who is believe is someone she knew. There is no scrutiny of any kind here in the states. She would have had a fair trial and she would not have had an increased punishment for an outburst from her representation. The U.S. Supreme Court would have given her a fair and just trial because as long as you are considered a person in the states you the right of Due Process, not to mention you are protected by the U.S. Constitution.
I think that this overall case would be looked at under strict scrutiny, using the laws and applying those to the
