1. What problems does Robin Hood have? What issues need to be addressed?
Robin Hood has many problems such as the growing number of men that are joining his cause, the difficulty of controlling the new requruties as well as the difficulty of supplying them with the necessities to survive such as food, the fact of facing the villagers which support him and trying to impose taxes in order to sustain the new force of men he has gained, and the growing strength of the Sheriff by both his organization of his men and his political connections.
2. Discuss how these concepts impact Robin’s band of Merrymen:
a. Division of labor
When robins …show more content…
men were of moderate size the division of labor was easy but when the band grew larger it became more difficult dividing labor amongst all these men
b. Unity of command
Robin is a very respected leader by his men and the villagers but with all the problems he is facing if he does not find a way to overcome it will affect his leadership and may create factions which will destroy the unity of command.
c. Centralization all of robins operations are centralized in the Sherwood forest which did work out for him when his bad was small but as it grew larger the forest could not provide shelter from the sheriff and his men thus was a threat the only way robin could overcome this is by expanding his operation to other parts of England are redistributing the new men to those areas.
d. Discipline
Discipline was becoming more difficult to sustain with growing number of men joining the band because there wasn’t any organization in the recruitment process peoples skills were no being used properly.
e. Esprit de corps there was an esprit de corps between robin and his men because of the motto they had robing the rich and feeding the poor and trying to fight the tyranny of the sheriff and the social injustice.
3. What Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats are inherent in this case?
Strength: because robins band is growing this gives his the advantage over the sheriff.
Robin has the support of the villagers which help him in his missions.
Weaknesses: because of the large number of men joining it has become harder to support them.
The men are not as disciplined as they used to be.
Opportunities: the opportunity of helping in supporting the baron to free king Richard will surly provide a good reputation when king Richard restores power and help his cause with the poor and get rid of the sheriff
Threats: the sheriffs organization and growing strength is a definite threat to robin and his band
4. What issues of ethics and social responsibility are involved with this case? Why?
Ethically it is very important that robin does not abuse the power given to him by the public (Villagers, the poor…and etc.) by demanding a transit tax which will go well with his allies due to the fact that they are being taxed by the sheriff which become too burdensome on these people. Robin’s social responsibility is to find other ways to find revenue and get rid of the cause of the problem which is the sheriff; by helping King Richard take power again.
5. Explain these changing environmental elements:
a. Economic forces
With the increase in the number of men joining robin’s band there have become new financial responsibilities to feed them and buy supplies for them, and there isn’t much revenue …show more content…
anymore.
b. Socio-cultural forces
The new men joining the merry men are from all parts of England this will lead to changing in the socio-cultural forces because these men may have different cultural values than robin’s original men.
c. Political and legal forces
The increasing strength and political support given to the sheriff by king john helps the sheriff become more organized, and the other factor is the Barons proposition for robin to help support them into freeing King Richard and helping him take power.
6. Which leadership model do you recommend Robin to employ? Why would it be most effective?
Moral leadership , because a moral leader is more reliable is can be trusted by his men, they have the best intent in mind and will not betray or change their values when circumstances change, they want to make the situation better for everyone and fight social and economic injustice.
7. How can Robin improve communication?
By assigning leaders to each group and have personal communications with these leaders in order to project the goals that need to be achieved and communicate better with larger masses.
8. What is the overall action plan? Mission? Performance objectives? Strategies? Action steps for implementation? ( Part B )
Robin Hood is facing many problems such as the growing number of men that are joining his cause, the difficulty of controlling the new recruits as well as the difficulty of supplying them with the necessities to survive such as food, the fact of facing the villagers which support him and trying to impose taxes in order to sustain the new force of men he has gained, and the growing strength of the Sheriff by both his organization of his men and his political connections.
The mission is to understand the new purpose of the merry men if they want to keep their original motto of robbing the rich and feeding the poor or changing it to something else. Another mission for robin and his band is to find a way to adapt to the new environmental changes that are taking place, such as the increase of the number of requites, the new financial obligations that come with increasing number of men, the growing strength of the Sheriff. In order to overcome these problems there needs to be a set of objectives for our final end goal which are controlling the number of men joining the merry men, increasing revenue, restore the power of king Richard, expand the operation. In order to achieve these objectives there needs to be a strategy taken by us that will help us get closer to our end goals, these strategies are being more selective in accepting men to the bad, finding new sources of revenue, giving support to the Baron, and increase the strength of the merry men. Now that we have established our strategies we will achieve them by taking these actions have an application system for joining the band such as looking at each applicants skills and how they might be beneficial to the group and if they are with good standing with other members or references this will insure the group only accepts men that will contribute to increasing the strength of the band, since there are a large number of men joining that are of skill we should train them more and then expand our territories to other places beyond the Sherwood Forest this will increase the revenue of the group as well as spread the name of the group to other parts of England, we should also contribute to the ransom money used to free king Richard this will help us gain the support of the baron and other political figures that are in support of king Richard thus will give us a good reputation and will help us in achieving the agenda of helping the poor. All these actions will help us achieve our end goal as an organization.
