Sequence Analysis Step 2:
1. The establishing shot of Hannibal behind the curtain reveals that he will be the main focus of the sequence. The scene was shot from a 3rd person point of view perspective, which makes it seem like there is a 3rd person it inside the jail cell with him. This kind of perspective allows the audience to anticipate what is to come further along scene.
2. The score creates an almost melancholy mood, letting the audience know that something ominous would happen with the police officers and Hannibal. It switches from a cheerful sound for most of the sequence to a dramatic interlude when Hannibal starts to attack the police officers. This switch of music, following along with low angle camera til and the sounds of the baton swishing as Hannibal hits the guard makes the scene even more dramatic and suspenseful.
3. The switch in perspective when Hannibal Lecter starts to attack the police officers comments on the lack of authority the police have in this situation. The audience get a series of close- up shots of the police guards securing their weapons and attempting to communicate with Hannibal in a orderly fashion, but yet Lecter is the one to have the upper hand. Lecter's control over the police essentially dictates that there is a direct correlation between Lecter knows that he will be able to get out of the confinement that he is put in and that he is intelligent enough to devise a plan using violent means.
Step 3: Silence of the Lambs makes great use of calm and intense action scenes to dictate to the audience which character is the main focus in the scene. Fitting along with the melancholy score, the audience is easily directed toward the disturbed mindset of Hannibal Lecter, letting us know that he possesses the power rather than the police officers. This score also changes with the action from being a sweet melody to an intense and dramatic composition right as Hannibal
