Servant Leadership Theory Essay
The relationship between organizational structure, culture, and leadership contributes to either minimizing or raising productivity of an organization. Therefore, it is important to identify leadership styles that a leader can apply in order to promote an efficient organizational structure and culture. The paper will assess two theories, which relate to the social media sector, by identifying a social media company executive with effective leadership skills and link his attributes to the theories.
Leadership Theories The transformational leadership theory causes social systems and individuals to change (Pillai et al., 2014). This is because it constitutes for positive and valuable change among followers so that they can develop into leaders.

Normally, servant leaders offer total attention to followers and concentrate on catering to their needs. Unlike transformational leadership approach that offers recommendations on how the leader can motivate and influence followers, this theory emphasizes on ethics, empathy, trust, and collaboration. This means that the leader has to act like a servant so that he can serve his followers better (Hochstetler, 2014). Notably, leaders need to identify the desires and needs of their followers because they are bound to reciprocate through better performance, deeper engagement, and increased teamwork.
Robert Greenleaf introduced the servant leadership model through an essay and it focused more on the followers. A servant leader has to concentrate on the well-being and growth of followers. Moreover, the theory does not just focus on employee behavior but rather the hierarchical link between the subordinates and leader. Therefore, a leader imagines himself/herself as a servant first by deciding to lead so that his/her followers can be served better rather than increasing individual power. The social media industry is dynamic and this demands that a leader has to be supportive in order to develop the potential of the employees. Servant leaders usually focus on day-to-day coaching, assist in growing the follower’s achievements, and instigate performance planning. In the social media industry, the growing demands of the users as well as modifications in technology require constant formulation of strategies that will require extensive generation of ideas from the employees. Greenleaf’s definition of servant leadership is one which is based on teamwork and community while seeking to involve others in the decision making and is strongly based in ethical and caring behavior while enhancing the growth of people (Spears, 1996).
