Ken. Little girls cannot live up to the expectations of a doll. This prejudice has become so much a part of our culture that we have adapted to it to the point that it can seem unnoticeable. When a boss, or manager always refers to a woman as “Sweetheart” or “Darling” or “baby” that is a form of belittlement. When a women who chooses a career rather than raising a family she is seen as not fulfilling her gender-bias role of being a mother. Then the most common form is street harassment, the constant whistles or “Hey baby, why don’t you let me get a better look at you?” or even sometimes groping of the chest or butt. Most cases of sexism references women, but it is also common with males. Society paints this picture perfect man that needs to be the all-American, hardworking, athletic and manly guy. He needs to be working in some high end job making a six figure salary to provide for his family, and if he chooses to be a stay at home father, well then that’s just not right. Men are seen as lazy or incompetent if they choose to anything that is viewed as a feminist thing. Little boys are teased to think that if they don’t meet those requirements then they are unworthy.
