According to the New York Times, rampant sexual abuse of children has long been a problem in Afghanistan among men with ‘authority’ which dominate most of the Afghan population. This practice is known as ‘Bacha bazi’ in Persian, which translates to boy play. Although this isn't always a topic of discussion and society has grown to think ownership over one's own body isn't a real issue, children in Afghanistan are still being sexualy abused, tortured, and trafficked. A boy known as Abdul Kabir shares a story of his terrible experience leaving his home in Afghanistan's southern Urozgan province on the sixth of June on of 2007 looking for new beginnings and an education for himself and his family. “After my relative declined to give me a job at his shop, i went to a labour market where two men hired me for construction work for 50 Afghanis (US $1) a day. They took me into an empty house where they both forcefully had sex with me” (Kabir). Abdul also said while he was trying to get home by cab his cab driver had also abused him; and when Abdul escaped his cab driver to the poppy fields another young man tried to rape him but Abdul stabbed the man in the stomach. These quotes provide evidence of how severe the sexual abuse issue is in Afghanistan; where kids can't even leave their homes or explore new ways to maintain a helping hand for their struggling families without the fear of being molested by deadly strange men. No child is safe from the sickening, repulsive men that wander the streets of Afghanistan searching for new children to ruin the lives
