Upon completion three years later, Holmes moved his drugstore into the bottom floor of the Castle and rented space out to other shops to maintain a normal appearance. Roylott’s behavior leads to his strategy to kill Helen, just like he did to her sister, Julia. To start, he convinced Helen to move into Julia’s room because repairs were being made in her room. For instance, it states, “...Some repairs were started in the west wing of the building, and my bedroom wall as been pierced , so that I have had to move into the chamber in which my sister died…” (116).Then, at night, he would stand on his chair and put the snake through the ventilator, that lead to Julia’s room. The snake would then use the dummy (fake) bell-rope as a bridge, and crawl down to the bed next to it. The snake would next try to bite the victim, Helen. After that, the snake would be summoned, to return to Dr. Roylott’s room, by a whistle. His plan to kill Helen was elaborate, but eventually it smacks him in the…

With an advanced directive an individual is able to address their wishes about their healthcare, for example a ‘do not resuscitate’ wish and so on, and may appoint someone to handle their care and ensure that the patient’s wishes are being followed—also called a durable power of attorney. Any file drawn up with an attorney is to be honored by the durable power of attorney. A durable power of attorney can be anyone from a friend, family member, or even your lawyer.…

The role that women play in Church has always been a misunderstood and heavily scrutinized issue within the church. These negative thoughts may be attributed to the bible’s own scriptures in regards to women. It is widely believed that men are natural born leaders, as that is the way God made them, but modern society has shown us that women can be just as successful in leading, if not more so. Today women serve as positive leaders in politics, business, law and even in some churches as of lately. So why then, do many churches refuse women the right to serve as leaders? Why did God include passages of the Bible that restrict women’s leadership? According to "The Rise Of Women As Church Leaders" (2006), "Many Christian religions keep women out of top leadership posts – especially the pulpit. Their reasons rely mainly on selective readings of certain biblical passages regarding women.” (para. 2) Women should listen and learn quietly and submissively (Timothy 2:11). I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. (Timothy 2:12-14). If they have any questions to ask, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings (Corinthians 13:35). The women should keep quiet in the churches, for they are not authorized to speak, but should take a secondary and subordinate place, just as the Law also says (Corinthians 14:34). These are each very clear examples of the restrictions of leading women in Christianity. While many churches continue to deny women certain human rights, it is very clear that without women, the Christian religion would be a vastly different community.…

In 1849, shortly after his death, Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “The Bells” was first published. Poe was famous for his short stories and poems, which were typically read in darker tones. He was consistently losing family to illness and time, and was, as a result, a very morbid and depressed man. The inspiration for “The Bells” is thought to be from the ringing Poe heard every day coming from the Fordham University bell tower, since he resided in the same area as the university and would often visit the campus. This poem…
