Children come into this world helpless and unable to thrive without us. Our job as parents is to love and nurture them and teach them how to live. As a parent I would like to teach my children how to be respectful to themselves and to others; …show more content…
to teach them discipline and to honest and kind to others. We want our children to appreciate the importance of being responsible. We also want them to develop the habits and strength to act this way in their everyday lives. Learning to be responsible includes compassion for other; practice honesty in standing up for our principles; develop self-control in acting on our principles; maintain self-respect. We also want to teach our children honesty. Honesty means telling the truth. It means not misleading others for our own benefits. Finally, we would like to teach our children respect for others, also including the habit of treating people fairly as individuals regardless of race, sex or ethnic origin.
As I was reading Charles by Shirley Jackson.
I felt that the parents were good parents. They provide food, shelter, love, and caring for their children. It is evident when Laurie swaggers off to school how much his mother misses having her little boy at home. They also seem to understand the negative behavior at school can be a bad influence and they show genuine concern about it. Also, the mother is involved in the PTO, at least her schedule allows. I also felt that they were bad parents as well in regards to their attitude to Laurie’s behavior in home. He spills his sister’s milk, he talks back to his father a “dust mop”. The one time the father does reprimand him, he continues his deplorable behavior. I think they may also be sending a mixed messages in their zeal for the next tale of Charles because all that is doing is allowing Laurie to relive and enjoy his school time antics. They seem like loving caring parents. But they are a bit naïve a bit thick when it comes to their own child
behavior.
