In What Ways Has Your View Of Yourself As An Early Childhood Professional Changed Over Time?
In what ways has your view of yourself as an early childhood professional changed over time? Explain. I believe that over the last two years as I have studied at Concordia University my view as an early childhood professional has changed dramatically. I have come to accept that even though I will graduate, I will never stop learning. And, that is part of being in this field. Each day that I go to work, I learn from the staff, children, and from conducting research on ways to educate children and improve their learning experience. I am always asking myself how can we do it better? And, even though I have the title of Director, I am first and foremost an advocate for children. As far as children, I have learned the importance of respect. All children of every age deserve to be treated respectfully by every adult they interact with. When we respect children for the unique special beings that they are, we show them that they are valued and important. This will impact them as they go through life. The surprising part of this class was how much I actually enjoy researching my study topic. I was able to find so many interesting articles about diversity and multiculturalism that I actually used in my center. Some of these included taking a large atlas and then having the parents connect a string from a mini family poster that they made to their country of origin. I also collected recipes that have special meaning from the families and made a cookbook that was emailed out this past Friday to all families enrolled in the program. I have gotten such a positive response from parents and staff which makes me want to

I believe children learn best through play. I see this everyday watching the children learning to count while building with blocks, or learning colors while painting or coloring with crayons. I strive to make an environment for these children so they can excel in all their developmental milestones. Children are more motivated to learn when they are able to make choices. It is my responsibility to make sure they have an environment accessible to them that is stimulating and enriching to help them make these choices. Learning to make positive choices is very important for children as it helps them to see how their choices can, in fact, can affect the people around them. This can make children feel very independent and highly involved in their own learning experiences. My role here is to help children with their abilities to make positive choices.…

During this course I have learned about diversity, race, ethnicity, cultural differences, stereotyping and prejudice. Much of the textbook reading has enlightened me on the immense diversity in the United States and in the world at large. The decisions that I partook in during this course have allowed me to interact with many diverse people from various backgrounds which is much like the way the United States and society is in general work. I really never thought about diversity in the way that was taught in this course; people come from many backgrounds and have rich and full cultures who live right here in my own community. Now that I see these cultures in a different light due to this course I can enjoy them more and not feel like they are so different from me and when they are different I can embrace those differences.…

The information that I have learned about diversity in the United States has helped me better understand our society and relate to different people. I think that diversity is a beautiful thing that we should embrace instead of looking at negatively. The United States has come a long way in terms of discrimination and prejudice against different people from different cultures, backgrounds and races. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of what some people went through in order to gain the respect of people that looked down on them because they were of a different descent. Looking back at the way African Americans…
