10 October 2014 Writing Project 2 For my writing project, I decided to attend a Circle K meeting. Circle K is a community service organization and their mission is “to serve the children of the world while developing their members into responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to community service worldwide.” Their three beliefs are service, leadership, and fellowship. The reason I wanted to write an ethnographic essay about this club is because I thought their culture and interactions was interesting. Also, attending the club meeting helped me learn more about the UULO, global and multicultural awareness. In this essay, I will explain why I thought Circle K was interesting with the research I obtained from attending their meeting and how it connects to global and multicultural awareness. For my methodology when observing Circle K, I made sure to analyze the members’ interactions with each other and how close they were. This is important because to have global and multicultural awareness, everyone must be friendly with each other regardless of “age, ability, religion, politics, race, gender, ethnicity, and sexuality.”(120) I noticed when I attended the meeting that the club was very diverse. The room was filled with people of different races, genders, religion, and age. This made me believe that Circle K is a diverse, accepting community where all of the members had a sense of global and multicultural awareness. I also interviewed the president of the club, Adam Madamba, to get his perspective on Circle K and how he believes his club has a global and multicultural awareness. I also made sure to ask him how he thinks his club helps spread global and multicultural awareness. After interviewing him, his answers made me want to join Circle K myself. His answers really proved to me that the club fulfilled this UULO. I also thought it was interesting how Adam’s perspective on Circle K is entirely
