Cloud Computing In today 's global environment, the paradigm shift to cloud computing is a major change in the software industry. Cloud computing is a Internet based utility computing platform that allows individuals and organizations to access software applications, servers and storage resources over the internet as shared resources, in a self-service manner (Choudhary & Vithayathil, 2013, p. 69). Instead of having to buy, install, maintain and manage high-end servers and storage resources on-premise, applications can be accessed from anywhere with the use of internet connectivity. This paper would highlight the types of cloud computing, use of cloud computing applications, along with its advantages and disadvantages. In addition, the paper will also talk about the use of Structured Design Life Cycle (SDLC) for the implementation of Cloud based applications in the world of technology that is helping to shape the future.
Types of Cloud Computing There are currently four types of cloud computing (Bowles, 2013). The first is the Global
Information Cloud, which is considered to be the internet. It is accessible to anyone with a computing device with internet connectivity. The External Information Cloud is the second, and is often represented by the closed and private data within an organization, such as an extranet that a company may have. The third cloud is known as the Local Information Cloud, which the owner maintains control of and anyone that accesses this type of cloud must have membership to
