Short Story 'Antaeus' By Borden Deal

Antaeus is a short story by Borden Deal. In the short story, the author captures the story of a small, southern, soft-spoken boy who arrives in the north named T.J. T.J joins a small gang of friends and encourages them to take a pursuit at agriculture within their busy city. In Antaeus, T.Js shorts lived success was a result of his unique southern abilities that his fellow “gang” members had not obtained yet. T.J was very intelligent, receptive, and persistent boy. His story is an example of how hard work and determination encourages people to join you. Another similar text is The Smallest Dragonboy by Anne Mcfoy which is a short scientific fiction story about a young boy, keevan, who must overcome obstacles to fulfill his destiny.
His goal is to prove his worthiness and become a “dragon rider”. T.J and Keevan share similar physical traits, character traits, and people comparatively respond to them the same way. Both authors captured seemingly indifferent characters yet contrasting settings and endings. The two characters decisions stem from their lack of support from others due to others thinking of them as less than.
