Short Story Of Count Nightburn's Journey
He had lost his best friend, Garland, in Banniff when he tried to prevent the old one from burning the city to the ground. Now, the only thing left standing was the keep, magically protected from the old one’s wrath, and sealed away from Banniff’s conquerors by Nightburn before his departure. Cross knew the old one had no intention of sharing Heczar and it would burn every last city, turning the continent into a barren wasteland. This was all because of Count Nightburn and because of his transgressions, Cross would find him and make sure that the kingdoms of the world held him accountable. He would make every effort to ensure that when they executed him for his evil deeds, it will be a long and painful. Yes, he would pay for what he’d …show more content…
He foolishly convinced himself that if he could slay an old one, the gods would bring back his family that they so wrongly had taken from him.”
“Why should this interest me?”
“Well, I told him that there was only one person with the power to bring back his family from the dead and that person would be Count Nightburn.”
“Ah, I see where you are going with this, Professor Kinnock.” Nightburn turned to General Reeper. “Yes, it is true that I could bring back your family if I so desired. I could bring them back the same as the day they took them from you, but why should I do such a thing?”
When General Reeper looked at him, Nightburn could see that he was a tormented man. “Whatever you want I will do. I will serve as your General, your second in command, or even a foot soldier if you would like, my Lord, if you would only bring back my family. I will make a pact, swear my loyalty to you or do whatever you wish if you would do such a thing. I swear to be eternally grateful.”
“Interesting. You think you could serve me, General Reeper?”
“I do, Count Nightburn.”
“Is your service the only thing you have to offer in exchange for such a valuable

I don’t really know what he is but definitely not Elf. He’s a Dwarf, I think, although, something is definitely different about him from the description that Cross gave me.”
“Have you ever crossed swords with him?”
“I, personally have not, but General Cross has. I remember he told me after his encounter, he’d prefer not to face him in battle again.”
“What of the elemental warrior?”
“Ashlend is Elvish descent, known by many as the demon of fire because of his complete control over the element of fire, and carries an Elvish sword that no one has seen the like of before, wielding it artfully to slice through armor like a hot knife through butter.”
“Describe this Elf.”
“I have never seen him, but those who have, say that he is a very tall for an Elf, never wearing armor for protection, only dressing in elegant clothing, and rumored to have some special defensive skill preventing enemy blows and arrows from finding their mark, thus, never wounded in battle. Nor do many remember him because whenever he has taken to the battlefield, the opposing armies have always lost and with their defeat, he vanishes. That is all I’ve heard, my Lord.”
“Ashlend, you say, controls the element of

Beowulf was known for being a warrior who preferred to fight a monster with his bare hands rather than with a weapon, yet it was not always his bare hands that would save him from death but rather his strong and reliable armor. Beowulf became the well known warrior that he was, owing to the fact that people believed that he was invincible and indestructible, however, it was his chain mail that he relied on to keep him alive. In the fight against Grendel’s mother, Beowulf would have never survived had it not been for “his woven war-corselet, wide and ornate” which would “safeguard his heart” (1275-1276). Grendel’s mother had the warrior in her grasp, clawing at him but she “failed to rip open the armor he wore” preventing his death (1330). Had Beowulf not worn the chain mail he would have been dead before he had the chance to kill Grendel’s mother and prove to the warriors who were “astonished to see him whole and unharmed” that he was the greatest warrior of their time (1434). When the warriors who had fled him saw Beowulf emerge from the water is when Beowulf became a significant member in the brotherhood, creating a greater sense of unity and strength amongst the men.…

In his honor, Hrothgar kept a feast at Herot. Slowly, Grendel came. He started to eat the people. “The young veterans, he felt, did not receive the respect they were entitled to after what they had been through. He became a teacher, but as early as December 1920 quit in disgust-no one understood the young veterans, he complained.” (Taylor 4). Remarque’s expression of his feelings of young veterans who are not understood is a recurring topic in “All Quiet on the Western Front”. He explains through Paul Baumer that war destroys innocence, and no one gives appreciation to the veterans who had to make that sacrifice. “And men will not understand us--for the generation that grew up before us, though it has passed these years with us already had a home and a calling; now it will return to its old occupations, and the war will be forgotten--and the generation that has grown up after us will be strange to us and push us aside. We will be superfluous even to ourselves, we will grow older, a few will adapt themselves, some others will merely submit, and most will be bewildered;--the years will pass by and in the end we shall fall into ruin.” (Remarque…

In the autumn of 1918, a 20 year old german soldier contemplates to himself: “Let the months and years come, they can take nothing from me, they can take nothing more. I am so alone, and so without hope that I can confront them without fear” (295). These last few thoughts happen right before this soldier, Paul Baumer, dies. In the book All Quiet On the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque creates the character of Paul Baumer in order to illustrate a generation full of men who are well known throughout our history, of what we all know of, the “Lost Generation.” About eight million soldiers lost their lives in combat and millions more were injured under the occasion of what we call today, “The Great War.” Remarque wrote this book about what these fighters at war deal with first hand; like with their teachers, families, and government. All Quiet On the Western Front expresses a story filled with the beauty of comradeship between each of the soldiers by finding solace in one another and the extenuating gestures of raillery throughout the book that help keep them from completely being taken over by the fear of death, or even war itself.…

Although Bäumer is close with his comrades, he is aware of his alienation. He may be on the front lines physically, but the war has destroyed his mind so completely that he has removed himself mentally. He reacts with only “animal-like instincts”, completely detached from his setting with thoughts such as “We were all at once terribly alone; and alone we must see it through”. Yet, who could blame him for becoming detached when…

Tolkien is wrong because if you remember in the beginning of the book it says that they saw the elves after the dragon came and destroyed and burned the whole town.In the movie it shows that after the dragon destroyed and burned the whole town they saw the elf king just standing there on the top of the hill with his elf army after the town was destroyed. Tolkien is also right because when the dwarves were being attacked by the orcs. Then that guy was distracting the orcs animals with his rabbits. Then when everything went wrong, he orcs found out that it was just a distraction, but then the elf King and his army saved the dwarves lives. At the end, I would think that the elf King is bad because the rods have the best army and weapons and if…

A gruesome, ferocious beast lurking in the dark arches his back, balls up his sharp elongated talons into a fist, clenches with all his might, and flexes his commodious muscles as he lets out a snarl that forms into a growl. A growl previously entrapped in the pit of the beasts’ belly and left to brew for centuries. A growl of impatience. For all day, every day, and every day after that, the beast is compelled to listen to the sweet, majestic music-paying attribute to the great creator of all things. A king by the name of Hrothgar and his warriors rejoice and sing praises, living happily in the land created by the Creator himself. Moreover, happily they lived until the foul beast, Grendel the fiend, the wicked, the fearsome, began to stir in the hell he settled in on Earth. Grendel haunted the moor, and the wild marshes making it his territory that no man dared trot. In the midst of Grendel’s stir, he was spawned, conjured. Murderous demons and demons alike, banished by God had a sour banishment, and this left a less than exceptional taste on Grendel’s tongue. Grendel, with two horns protruding out from his extensive locks, nasty fangs clearly visible in his mouth, talons curved and sharpened to perfection, and a permanent snarl on his face sought destruction and chaos, and only that. His filthy eyes filled with nothing but darkness and fire, pure evil, fixed themselves on Herot’s men.…
