16 year olds have no motivation at all to vote.
Some barley have the motivation to get up and go to school everyday in the morning. In the article it talks about a boy named Ben Miller saying he had “no burning issues motivating him” This is why 16 year olds shouldn’t be allowed to vote since most of them aren’t interested in learning about what's happening in politics and voting. Fred Schultz said that this “won’t be worth the time and effort the city devoted to the issue. Nor will it do much to achieve the larger goal of getting younger voters engaged in politics.” I believe this is true because at the end of them day 16 year olds are 16 year olds they are still not matured enough to see the big picture or motivated enough to make a difference in this world
yet. Voter apathy on 18 year olds are starting to show that they either don’t care or too busy getting their life together and don't have time to vote. Shin states that 18 year olds “are not a very good first voting age group”. This is true because back in the day if they were old enough to fight in the war they are old enough to vote. This relates to 16 year olds aren't old enough to vote because since 18 year olds are mature enough to fight in the war and represent us they can get to vote since they are making a difference already, but 16 year olds are barely old enough to get behind the wheel.Shin says that”18 year olds go to the polls in much smaller numbers than their elders.” This relates back to 16 year olds shouldn’t be allowed to vote because since they don’t turn out and they are old enough this would mean 16 year olds would turn out a lot less than 18 year olds would. Richie says that “in the midst of leaving their childhood homes” which means they are barely matured enough to handle life on their own while 16 year olds are still babies and don't really know enough or have experience about life itself so they won't really know enough about politics.
