Abortion has been a very controversial topic amongst today’s society. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy and has been legal in the United States since the US Supreme court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Women should have the right over their own body and reproductive system. The debate over the legality of abortion has been continuous for many years. Abortion should be legal because it is a fundamental right for woman. Pro-life advocates will argue that abortion should be illegal, because of the so called “other Options” such as adoption, orphanages, and foster care.
Those who are against abortion are so quick to mention adoption, but people need to be conscious of just how many children are not actually adopted, instead placed in orphanages and foster care. Based on the information provided by the “Foster Adoption Facts” approximately 62,378 children are in foster care waiting to be adopted. In 2015, more than 20,000 children aged out of foster care, meaning they were never given a permanent home, a permanent family. Life in foster care is not easy. The fetus is described as “an unborn offspring of a mammal. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” If the fetus is an “unborn offspring” it cannot be identified as a human being.
