They will consider Vattenfall plans to sell coal power in Germany. Selling coal power could lead to the release of one billion tons of carbon dioxide and cannot be looked at, from a climate perspective, than nothing less than a disaster. Now is the time that the government needs to take responsibility for the situation and do something proactive, which accelerates the development of a renewable energy system in Germany.
Through state-owned Vattenfall, we control one of the largest coal fields in Europe: Field Lausitz in Germany. If the coal is dug up and used as fuel in power plants we can kiss limitations to Europe's emissions goodbye which will not allow us to live up to the Climate Change Convention and its goals that are set to be discussed in Paris in December. There is an immense amount of carbon dioxide, equivalent to 24 times Sweden's emissions last year (Hellberg, 2014)
