They need to know that slavery did not end with the 13th amendment, and it still hasn’t ended today. This issue needs to be fought. People need to combat slavery in all forms, not in just the most recognized. Nobody should be treated like they are property. Humans aren’t supposed to be sold, they are supposed to be equal, and the world needs to fix that. Everyone who possibly can help raise awareness, needs to make this problem a bigger issue in the public’s eyes. Kids need to know what to do if someone tries to pick them up on the side of the road. Being entered into a world of modern day slavery doesn’t even cross their minds in that moment. Who would want to dream of a place where you have to be afraid of being sold? That isn’t the American Dream. The American Dream is different for everyone. It is a vision of the perfect life that they hope to live someday. This doesn’t include children and their peers being sold into a life of being forced to do unspeakable things. When Thomas Paine wrote about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, he wanted the future of America to have a happy life under those principles where they could be safe and live their life to the fullest. He doesn’t speak about things like slavery or any other problems. He was trying to convince America to break away from Britain so that they could have better advantages in life, but he does not talk about having to live your life in fear of being sold to strangers. The American Dream isn’t made to conform to the bad things that can happen in your life; it’s about the good things that you want in life. Without things like slavery in the world, more people can have the American Dream. They can envision a life filled with happiness, instead of the constant nagging fear that they could have their life ripped from their grasp at any
