Should State Have Water Power

Should the state have the power on how much water we use and finalize it as a law? I strongly believe, we should have a law when it comes down to water.This drought that California is having is really effective. For example, Pete Rodriguez a retired dock worker says, “I don’t know how long we can stay here”(Source 2). Meaning because we are running out of water he has to take one and a half hours out of his day to haul water because the well behind his modest rented home went dry. This law would be able to allow the water to be managed locally( Source 1). Therefore,the state can now watch and see if we have enough water for everyone. In this situation farmers don’t want the state to make this a law. Farmers feel like they should be limited to water because they need it to grow crops. But what their not getting is that they will have water. The state will of course make sure farmers have water and etc to grow crops and still be successful. The less water we have will affect everyone and their families because they won’t be able to cook food and take baths/showers.
Unfortunately, I feel farmers shouldn’t have a say so because they are already using a lot of water which i think that’s kind of selfish because they water everyday and leave it running all night.
At least 1,300 people have lost their water in and around East Porterville (Source 2). Farmers will start drilling underground to find water once they run out. I think if someone’s house runs out of water, they will have to move but who’s going to buy a house off of them, if it doesn’t have water. Unless someone can find a way to have water in that house.

In conclusion I still feel like they should have a law about water because if not the drought will get worse by 2020 or so on. I just feel that everyone will have a better life in the future. To save water, the state will have to say only 3-5 minute showers or they will need to find others
ways.
