It sickens me to my last nerve how much we blame everything on the government. The norm is that the buck should stop with them, because they are the policy decision-makers. However, citizen participation is crucial if ever we are keen on developing our country. South Africans in general are lethargic; ‘we’ and by that I mean everyone one of us, regardless of our background possess some level of entitlement. This is the type of psychological trial that makes us moan and whine about what the government should do. The question we should ask ourselves is since one have an idea of what the government should do, why then does one not act accordingly in that regard? If you are following my line of thought, you would figure out by now where I am going with this, you guessed correctly: we should meet the government halfway because by virtue the government is us – ‘the people’. Once and for all we should forget about ones’ skin pigmentation, spoken language or the historic origin because our problems, such as poverty, know neither of those things, it is not selective.
