Part 1: Plot Summary ¨Three Thanksgivings¨ by Charlotte Perkins Gilman takes place in times of extreme women oppression-- before many states had even given them the right to vote. The novella follows Delia Morrison, a fifty-year-old woman living alone in her home. Mrs. Morrison´s home, Welcome House, is precious to her, as it was a large portion of her childhood. It was built by her father, and she had always deemed it a magnificent place. One November, she receives two letters from each of her children, Andrew and Jean. Morrison refuses calmly. She is determined to preserve her freedom, self worth, and wants while managing her own money. Later, she decides to spend Thanksgiving with Andrew. He displays an extreme sense of worry and requests that she lives with his family, but Mrs. Morrison feels very out of place. She returns to her own home to contemplate ideas to gain income. Alas, she cannot conjure an idea strong enough to bring in the amount she needs. She begins to think of the groups of women her husband once taught and entertained in church, and this brings a plan to her mind. She decides to open a women's club-- she invites many to her home, including Mrs. Isabelle Carter Blake and the Countess. They discuss the idea of a women's club, where they can all help each other and socialize. It is decided that Mrs. Morrison will be the host-- each woman must pay ten cents a week in return for being in the club, eating crackers and cheese, resting, and so on. The club proves to be quite successful. The next Thanksgiving, Mrs. Morrison visits Jean and her family, where her help is greatly appreciated. Still, she leaves. After she arrives home once
