Psychosexual is involving the psychological aspects of the sexual impulse. Freud’s Stages of Psychosexual Development are, like other stage theories, completed in a determined sequence and can result in either successful completion or a healthy personality or can result in failure, leading to an unhealthy personality.
Oral Stage which is from birth to 18 months. During the oral stage, the child if focused on oral pleasures like sucking. This occurs through breast or bottle feeding, or sucking on a pacifier .Too much of this satisfaction can lead to other wanting in later life. This type of personality may result into having a stronger tendency to smoke, drink alcohol, over eat, or bite his or her nails. Basting this on their personality stand point these individuals may become overly dependent upon others, gullible, and perpetual followers. On another note, they may also fight these urges and develop pessimism and aggression toward others.
Stage which is eighteen months to three years. The child’s focus of pleasure in this stage is on eliminating and retaining feces during this time the pressure is mainly on the parents teaching them to use the facilities and knowing when to go and knowing that the child has to go. As for where the personality stands , after effects of an anal fixation during this stage can result in an obsession with cleanliness, perfection, and control. On the opposite end of the, they may become messy and disorganized.
Phallic Stage which is ages three to six. Freud believed that during this stage boy develop sexual desires for their mother. Because of this, the boy becomes rivals with his father and sees him as competition for the mother’s affection. Boys also develop a fear that their father will punish them for these feelings.
