Freud describes Ego as it operates based on the reality principle, which strives to satisfy the id's desires in realistic and socially appropriate ways. It also weighs the costs and benefits of an action before deciding to act upon or abandon impulses. This ties in with Ralph because of his role of a real leader. He focuses on being rescued and trying to keep everyone in check. For example, Ralph tells the boys, “If we have a signal going, they'll come and take us off. And another thing. We ought to have more rules. Where the conch is, that's a meeting. The same up here as down there." This shows Ralph's great leadership because of his personality of The Ego.
