Freud found that there are three types of awareness which is conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Conscious contains all the information of the things or environment which the person is paying attention to. For instance, when a person is walking, all the things that the person feels are based on his/hers consciousness, for example when they see or smell something. Conscious also can be linked to ego where ego is based on reality and knows exactly what it wants and most of the things we do real life are based on consciousness
Next preconscious keeps all the information without the person’s awareness but readily available anytime. (McLeod research, 2013) For example, the owner’s name of Brian’s second hand car and many not important memories are in his preconscious.
The unconscious happens when a person reacts to something due to past memories but they don’t really remember the incident well if we ask them at a different time. Those memories only arise when the situation is too emotional. For instance, someone might have vengeance on somebody when they are still young and those feelings arise when they see the person again after many years. This means many past memories tend to evoke in ourselves all of sudden without we realizing it.
This is where Freud found that some incidents which are often too disturbing for someone, they tend to hide it in unconscious part in their mind through repression process. So Freud used Psychoanalytic theory to solve the emotional problems faced by his patients. (McLeod research, 2013) Later on, Freud determined that someone’s personality is consisting
