In both 2stories, the characters have to cross a wide river. In “Cat and Rat: Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” the rat and cat have to get across the river in order to win the race. In “How Cats and Mice Became Enemies” the cat and the mouse have to get across the river in order to get to the village. The next comparison is that in both stories, the cat is very angry at the rat/mouse. In “Cat and Rat: Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” the cat is upset because the rat wanted to win the race so much that he distracted cat to go off and do something else so that he could win the race for himself. In “How Cats and Mice Became Enemies” the cat was very upset because even though the mouse wasn’t intentionally trying to harm the cat, the mouse still did because he was so hungry that he ate right through the pumpkin which left a hole in it and the cat doesn’t like water at all. The cat was accusing the mouse of trying to kill her. The next comparison is that both stories, the rat/mouse bribed cat with fish. In “Cat and Rat: Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” the rat bribes the cat to go and try to catch fish in the water to distract her so he could win the race. In “Cat and Rat: Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” there are many characters that take part in this story. In the other story “How Cats and Mice Became Enemies” there are only two characters. The next difference is that in the legend rat is the bad guy and is intentionally trying to make cat feel bad. In the enemies story, the mouse isn’t intentionally trying to hurt cat because he was just being selfish and he was also hungry, which is why he ate the pumpkin boat and accidentally put cat in danger from the water flooding into the boat. Another difference is that both stories, the characters had different places that they wanted to get to. In the legend, the cat and rat was in a race for the zodiac and wanted to get to the finish line. In the enemies story, the mouse and cat needed to get to the village because it had a lot of good food there. Lastly, another difference is that in the legend, the buffalo transports them during the race and in the enemies story, the pumpkin boat is how mouse and cat gets across the river.
