will resolve any issue with sex, as it is the key to their social life. In order to avoid confrontation, or to make peace, bonobos will become sexually aroused very easily and they show their excitement in different mounting positions and touching of the genitals (http://www.unl.edu). Although they live in groups that include both females and males, the females are the ones that contain the stronger bond and are the most dominant (Relethford, Pg. 282). Bonobo females will give birth to one infant about every five years and their pregnancies last around eight months. The infant will depend on its mother for the first four years of its life and during those first years, the father and any other siblings are closely associated with their family (http://www.zoosociety.org).
Chimpanzee:
The chimpanzee is the best known of the nonhuman primates. The chimpanzee has longer arms than legs, is both arboreal and terrestrial animals and also walks on its knuckles. Language and tool making was once thought to be unique to humans; however, observations have shown that chimpanzees have their own language and can also make tools. When it comes to family structure, chimpanzees will associate with their mothers until after they are fully-grown. Adult males and the infants do not appear to bond at any time. Adult, male chimpanzees are dominant over the adult, female chimpanzees and their dominance can be determined by their size and strength. The chimpanzee will at times live alone, leave and rejoin a group again. Also, although they mostly eat fruit, chimpanzees will hunt together and at times eat small animals that include monkeys (Pg.277-281). Additionally, "chimpanzees will resolve sexual issues with power; unlike the bonobo that resolves power issues with sex" (http://www.unl.edu). After looking at several pictures of chimpanzees and bonobos, I believe that the bonobo is the better model for early human ancestors. I had never taken the time to observe the difference between the two species-to me, a monkey was a monkey. Now that I have taken the time to observe the two, I realize that bonobos resemble humans better in the way that they walk and the way they stand. Chimpanzees are mostly seen hanging around trees and walking on their knuckles, not to mention that their bodies do not seem proportional because their arms are so long. Bonobos resemble humans in the way that their legs are longer and their arms are shorter. Also, I was impressed to know that their social structure resembles us in the way that they also tend to have babies every few years unlike other animals that tend to have babies as many times as possible.
