,Washington was never the type to go and start riots. He held speeches but he didn't want to start riots and create mayhem. …show more content…
He was good with his words, that's what made him a good politician and public speaker. He could get people on his side. Washington also believed that blacks and whites should a have an good relationship. Demanding equal rights will create ill between themselves and the whites. Washington stated in his speech in Atlanta that he would “cast down your bucket where you are”(document A). He saw that having a good relationship would make them be seen equal to the whites.
Secondly, Washington saw everyone equal to each other.
No person was better than another based off of skin color. His institute was mainly focused on skills like mathematics and industry. He encouraged both the African American and white race to be educated and successful. Dubois only sought the Africans American to be educated with sciences and arts. Dubois believe firmly in excellence and working hard no matter what career. He thought that Washington’s teachings of the industry was bad because it immediately made them of the lower class. Which is dumb because he said that he wanted everyone to work hard at their career. So it doesn't matter what job you have just as long as you work hard at it and are respectful. Washington was right about being respectful to all races and everyone.
Lastly, Washington was born a slave. He lived the slave live for nine years. He knew what is was like to be a slave at that time and how hard the work was. How disrespectful the whites were to them. Dubois could not relate to this. He could relate to the discrimination thought because he was born a free man. Washington can relate to those who went through the slavery, gained their freedom and are still being treated like they're slaves and not getting equal rights. His approach towards it is better because he is respectful and his ideas are non threatening to either
race.
In conclusion, Washington was a Better advocate for not being aggressive towards the civil rights, he respected all races and was educated, and he could relate to the African Americans. Being aggressive didn't do anything but harm your own race. It would make the whites hate them more. Washington’s speeches and use of words made him the better advocate.
