In 2006 US lawmakers made it illegal to bet on sports online. Daily fantasy sports did not fall under this law.. Since managers must choose players from multiple teams DFS was determined to be a game of skill rather than gambling. However, certain states felt otherwise about the topic. Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, New York, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Texas, and Washington State all decided that it was in fact gambling and prohibited the participation in DFS for money. They can make educated guesses when picking players. The same can be said for online sports betting. Someone could have the insight and luck to bet on the right sports team or teams on any certain day. Although, the outcome for either daily fantasy sports and online sports betting is ultimately unpredictable. In regards to that money is wagered on both platforms in an effort to win money. The only difference is one is legal in most states. The other has been deemed illegal by the US government. If certain states decided to make it unlawful to play DFS for money, one would think they recognize the possible similar negative effects it has as with online sports betting.
