Section One: Similarities There are many similarities between Hinduism and Buddhism. For starters, both religions believe that yoga and meditation will help one concentrate on the truth of life as well as find the path of enlightenment. Even though they both practice meditation and yoga, Buddhism is more laid-back with their rituals than the Hindus are. Hinduism is also strict when following the Dharmas of their caste; following all the rules grants “good karma” as opposed to bad karma (Brians, 146-152). On the other hand, Buddhism does not rigidly follow the caste system and believe that following the Eight Fold Path will earn enlightenment (Brians, 146-152). The Buddhists are also more relaxed in the sense that they reject the extreme asceticism that the Hindus value; they agree with renouncing the world, but do not condone religious practices that harm the body (Hopfe and Woodward, 68).
