Carl watched his mom die and most of his friends die so he has just stopped forming relationships with people. Holden's brother Allie dies and that is when be began to go crazy. Holden doesn't make new friends and pushes people away. “The trouble was, though, my address book only has about three people in it. Jane, and this man, Mr. Antolini, that was my teacher at Elkton Hills, and my father's office number” (Salinger 151). This shows that he has few friends because his address book is almost empty. He also misses his little brother Allie. Carl only really talks to his dad and also misses his mom. He also sees his friend Sophia as a Zombie. They both have few friends and have lost someone they cared about.
