Similarities Between King Arthur And His Noble Knights
The story of King Arthur is one that has been told for generation in many different ways two telling are the book The Acts of King Arthur And His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and King Arthur directed by Antoine Fuqua. In the Steinbeck version Arthur is the king of England and the son of King Uther Pendragon and Lady Igraine. Due to a deal Uther made with Merlin, a wizard, Arthur was raised by Sir Ector as though he is his own son. Later on Uther passed away from an illness and lords began to claim his old land so Merlin and the archbishop set up a challenge to pull a sword from a stone. After Arthur pulled the sword from the stone Arthur claimed the throne and waged war against the lords and won under the guidance of Merlin. Later on
He married Guinevere. Her father gave him the round table. The same Table Uther gave to him to Guinevere’s father. Thus creating the knights of the round table. In Fuqua’s version Arthur is a Roman cavalry officer in charge or a group of Sarmatian soldier. Their post is Hadrian's wall and they are sent out on one final mission north of the wall to rescue a roman family before Rome leaves Britannia and lets the Saxons take over. When they get to the house of the family they find that family has been keeping two people, a boy and woman named Guinevere, locked up because they are not christian. As they travel back to the wall the Saxons follow after them.when they make it to the wall all of the warriors stay back to defeat the Saxons. The movie version of king Arthur and his knights are more chivalrous than in the book. The first way king Arthur and his knights are more chivalrous is the fact that they are more loyal.This is shown when Arthur,s men stay with him during the last fight even though they were free men. Another instance is when Dagonet risk and loses his life to save Arthur, Guinevere, the other other knights and all of the people traveling with them by breaking the ice the saxons were on sending many of them to a watery grave during a battle on a frozen lake. In the book versions of king arthur lancelot has an affair with Guinevere and after Arthur finds out an try and convicts Guinevere of adultery, a crime punishable by death.During the execution Lancelot stormed in and killed three of his fellow knights before waging war on arthur.
