The conflict between Napoleon and Snowball is similar to that of the conflict between Stalin and Trotsky. Napoleon and Snowball could not agree on what would be best for the animals to focus on (Animal Farm). When the pigs determine they need money they tell the hens they will need to sell their eggs. This horrifies the hens who believe the eggs to be their unborn children and refuse to give them up. However they give them up when the pigs cut their rations in response (Glover, Beaird). Before Snowball is run off the farm Napoleon uses the sheep's mindless chanting of "Four legs good, two legs bad" during Snowball's speeches to interrupt him (Glover, Beaird). When Snowball is run off the farm he uses Squealer to make the animals believe Snowball was evil and always trying to sabotage the revolution (Animal Farm). Squealer is also used to convince the animals that Napoleon is not going against the Commandments when Napoleon starts trading with neighboring farms who are ruled by humans (Animal Farm). Napoleon scares the animals who go against him or sympathize with Snowball into confessing (Robb, Paul). When the animals do confess they are brutally killed by the dogs who serve as Napoleon's police (Animal Farm).
