Out of all the knights for king Arthur not a single knight step up and took the challenge, King was going Arthur took the challenge. So Sir Gawain “Let this game be mine…
My life would be least missed.” (l, 119,132) Sir Gawain shows extremely amount of courage and honor to do this. Even the nobles for king Arthur were very appreciative for Gawain and advise Arthur “Let the King step down and give Sir Gawain the game!” (l, 140) By doing this Sir Gawain is putting his life on the line for his king. There nothing more courageous than putting your life on the line for someone else. Gawain took his swing on the Green Knight and failed to kill the Green Knight. Therefor the Green Knight gets his swing at Sir Gawain. Another courageous act Sir Gawain is when the lord of a castle would go hunt and he would stay at the castle. Then they would exchange what the won that day but, “While the lord is out hunting, the lady attempts to seduce Gawain… first two days accepts only kisses, but on the third day the lady gives Sir Gawain a scurf that will protect him from any blow.” (l, 187) On first two days he gave The Lord the kisses. But on the third day he kept the scurf to save his life. But who would not accept a gift that could save their life. That is still very courageous. Sir Gawain also kept his word and should up at the green chapel, so the Green Knight can take his swing. That is extremely courageous that Gawain kept his word to the Green Knight. Sir Gawain is a very courageous knight in the story “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight”. To put his life on the line for his king, to turn down the queen so many time when the lord was gone, and lastly to keep his word to the Green Knight. Knowing all these courageous acts, Sir Gawain is a Courageous knight.
