1:1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
The essence of any society is its ability to replenish the members, which constitute it and thus ,enhance the continued existence of that society. The ability of any human settlement to retain its characteristics as a social group relies heavily on the replacement of old members of society with new ones. However, the replacement of old member of society with new young ones involves certain process and stage whose regulation is the responsibility of society.
Various approaches have been adopted globally by different societies to perform this pivotal task. Principally, however all these approaches include three (3) very important phases which are central to the replacement of old member of society with new members? The stages involved are: (i) Mating (ii) Reproduction and procreation (iii) socialization
Mating basically involves two members of society, preferably adults, belonging to two different sexes in society namely the male sex and the female sex. Successful mating usually result in reproduction and procreation. During reproduction, the new offspring produced during mating, begins to take the human form in the body of the female where it is incubated until it is completely formed. Procreation finally takes place where the off spring is brought out the female at birth. Here, the offspring has assumed its own from and belongs to either of the two sexes in society.
Socialization, which is the final stage, involves the assimilation of the new off spring into the society. Here, the new individual imbibes the culture –which is the total way of life of that society. Thus socialization includes the processes by which we learn to become members of society, both by internalizing the norms and values of society and also by learning to perform our social roles. Without socialization, an individual would bear little resemblance to any
