How are we to let our children and young adults grow up if we are telling them what they can and cannot say to voice their options. How are we as a society able to grow as thinkers if we can’t voice those thoughts without repercussion. I know the First Amendment does not protect against “offensive speech”, but any speech can be offensive to someone. So I say if your easily offended then grow some thicker skin and have an open mind. It’s just sad to also see these law students at Stanford University wanting to enact these “speech codes”, that they think censorship is okay provided that your motives are okay. When are motives okay to go against the First Amendment? How far will this go they tell us what we can’t say soon it will be what we can’t think then what we can’t do. Why do we give participation trophies or ribbons to kids? It is giving them a false sense of accomplishment. They really didn’t earn a trophy, yes they participated in the event, but they didn’t do enough to earn a trophy to show that they gave that extra determination to be better than the next kid.
