after admission, she underwent a right total hip replacement revision. Postoperatively she did well. Her drain was removed on the fourth postoperative day. She was transferred to the skilled nursing facility at Quali-Care Clinic for continued care and rehabilitation.…
Length of stay was not the only process that was made more effective with the implementation of the PSH model at UC Irvine Health. Another aspect that was positively affected by the PSH model was turnover time of a procedure. According to UC Irvine Health ninety two percent of procedures start at 7:30 in the morning. With the implementation of the PSH model the turnover time averaged about 29 minutes. This was a 31 percent improvement from before the PSH model was implemented. For those worried about the performance of a surgeon because the turnover time improved, it went unaffected. According to UC Irvine Health, the 166 cases researched that all 166 cases had 100.00 performance rates. Because the performance of the surgeons was so high in less amount of time, this lowered the readmission rate for the same health issue. UC Irvine found that the readmission rate for hip arthroplasties is zero percent. The national average for readmission for a knee arthroplasty is between 2.5 percent and 4.3 percent compared to UC Irvine Health readmission rate which is 1.1 percent…
Dr. Jones wants to repeat the CT of the brain again on 6/8/17 to monitor the fluid on the left side. He will then see Mr. Stevens again to review the results. In the meantime he would like Mr. Stevens to add a gait program to his current physical therapy program. I will meet Mr. Stevens at the appointment with Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. White on 6/6/17. Mr. Stevens has a large hernia that is not related that will be repaired soon. Dr. Jones said that was okay for him to have the sedation for the surgery…
Audrey who is diagnosed with fractured left NOF (neck of femur) must be evaluated using pain assessment to obtain the optimal pain management intervention. Analgesics and non-pharmacologic approaches will be helpful to ease her pain and anxiety(Fink, 2000). As for her safety, the bed must be lowered down, side rails up if necessary and all her needs must be placed within her reach. In addition, nurses should use the appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis, as she will be undergoing arthroplasty to prevent postoperative infections. (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2001) She will also be given…

Whether it is chronic or acute, hip pain can be debilitating. Fortunately, advances in arthroscopic hip surgery have made life bearable again for countless hip pain sufferers. This type of procedure can be utilized to counteract an assortment of hip conditions, from injuries of the articular cartilage to labral tears to impingement of the hip. Modern arthroscopic surgical techniques are minimally invasive in general, making them far more appealing to patients than past options may have been. However, this kind of surgery can be technically demanding, so attending a surgical center or clinic with a well-trained and adequately sized staff is imperative. Proper aftercare and physical rehabilitation are vital to the healing process after arthroscopic surgery has been performed.…
Your surgeon may ask you to have a medical checkup by your primary care physician to ensure that you’re in good enough health for surgery. She will likely tell you to stop taking certain medications, like aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, as these can cause excess blood loss during and after surgery and they may also interfere with the effects of anesthesia. She may also advise you to stop smoking as it can put you at a high risk of serious post-surgical complications. Because you’ll have difficulty moving comfortably after surgery, you should make sure that someone can come to your home to help you with activities like housecleaning, laundry and shopping.…
Smith obtained the photo of the target individual from a friend who verified her actual problem before the experiment began. The individual was a middle-aged woman with multiple problems: She had multiple sclerosis, especially in her hands, requiring frequent medication to reduce the pain. She was also the primary caregiver for her mother, who was in the final stages of lung cancer. She had recently lost her husband to an industrial mishap—he was accidentally crushed by a front-end loader, and in the process, a limb was severed. The woman was also involved in a very serious car accident.…
Sleep Deprivation can lead to fatigue, learning and concentration difficulties and workplace accidents. Medications, illness, stress related to work or home and just personal choice (i.e. going out the night before work) can all be causes of sleep deprivation. Emotional issues such as anxiety and depression can often lead to sleep deprivation or in worse cases, insomnia. Studies suggest that sleep loss may have an effect on the cardiovascular, endocrine, immune, and nervous systems.…
However, I value the relationship between doctor and patient as the best advantage. Simply working with the patients and seeing them progress due to their commitment and hard work is a breathtaking experience. In order to build a strong relationship with the patient, I will organize an innovative rehabilitation program that supports their individual goals and needs. The progression between doctor and patient goes hand in hand because as the patient begins to regain working function I can attain the confidence to work with others. Injuries can vary from patient to patient whether rehabilitation can take a short time or it can take quite a while. From my volunteer experience working at Los Feliz Country Villa hospital I observed how physical therapists are so composed and cooperative when working with a patient with major injuries. It takes more than just exercises and rehab to restore the patient’s bodily functioning but it requires trust and cooperation between doctor and patient. The purpose of the rehabilitation is to insure that the patient is able to keep up with the routine such as exercises to promote a steady recovery.…

After this experience, the rest of the clinical shift went astonishingly well. With that great self-confidence and the motivation to efficiently accomplish all the other tasks, I realized that the coordination with my partners was the primary influence towards my self-esteem today. My partners and I communicated with each other on every aspect to clarify and divide responsibilities. We started the shift by splitting up and individually going into the patient’s room to wake them up and ask if they wanted to freshen up before breakfast. Then we gave them water and face cloth as needed. Subsequently, all three of us came together to discuss how to finish rest of the tasks by prioritizing the patient’s needs and analyzing the situation. The outcome…
A 89 year old woman was admitted to the recovery ward for monitoring after a dynamic hip screw procedure of the right hip. The patient was received by myself and I immediately began the ABCDE approach to caring for the patient while the anaesthetist began his verbal handover of the patients medical history, intra operative care and instructions for post operative care including iv fluids and analgesia. The anaesthetist explained the patient had advanced…
Many people wonder why they awake with the feeling as if they did not sleep at all. According to WebMD, approximately twenty percent of Americans get less than six hours of sleep, when the necessary amount is at least eight hours. Disturbed sleeping patterns can be caused by: stress, an unhealthy diet, and pain. This essay will further examine the mentioned causes.…
