Slumdog Millionare
One important conflict from the film “slumdog millionaire” directed by Danny Boyle, is between Jamal (the main character of the film, and a show contestant on “who wants to be a millionaire”) and Prem Kumar (the show host of “who wants to be a millionaire”)

The conflict between Jamal and Prem is ongoing throughout the film. Prem is out to stop Jamal from winning the show “who wants to be a millionaire”. He doesn’t want Jamal to steal his light away. Prem was the only slumdog in history to win the prestigious game and wants to hold the title, this is why he sabotages Jamals chances and does everything in his power to stop Jamal being the second. This is where the conflict stars.

The conflict is portrayed to us through many techniques; I will be discussing three techniques used to affectively convey to us the conflict.

The first technique I will be discussing is the contrast between the characters and also the acting styles of the actors. The contrast is huge. Jamal is a very shy character that is always looking out of place. He is also a very serious character, never joking around or mucking about, he gets straight to the point. But prem is the complete opposite. He is the type of show host that feeds off the audience’s response. He will make jokes at the expense of Jamal because he is week and shy and seems like an easy target to him. For example, he says, “what does an assistant phone basher do?” and laughs mocking Jamal. He is an arrogant, character. This helps me understand the conflict through clashing personalities. The acting style also really helps with Jamals character talking quietly and humbly, while the actor that plays prem is cocky and loud.

Another great technique Danny Boyle used is cinematography. The cinematography in the film was very well thought through. It really shows the conflict just through the shots used. One example was the great birds-eye-view shot that showed the conflict by making the studio look like a fighting arena. This

I must be able to shape, interpret and use the elements of drama to create particular effects for an audience. To enhance conflict I decided to place Ruby and Ray upstage so that they have a closer proximity with the audience. I decided to create many pauses between Sylvie and Ray’s dialogue to redefine the conflict. For example when Sylvie says, ‘Ray…? Where’s Ruby?’ and Ray responds with, ‘I don’t know, Sylvie! I don’t know!’ I decided to place the actors so that they’re facing each other with a pause after Ray’s dialogue to show the climatic moment. I decided for Sylvie to imagine the mannequin of Ruby is outside the front under the street lamp so she is looking out into the audience enhancing the conflict revolving around the missing mannequin which she says. ‘The mannequin! She’s not under the street lamp. Somebody’s taken her. Who could be that cruel?’ Sylvie is looking out frantically into the audience making the audience feel uncomfortable and uneasy enhancing the conflict of this missing mannequin. One last way in which conflict is shown is through the body part of Ruby being sent in a parcel and how they don’t know the answers to who sent it and why and how it event got there reinforcing the invasion of a safe neighbourhood. Interpersonal relationship and nonrealistic conflict such as Fredrik and Michael’s case, can always be collaborated by equity rule as either of them will gain a greater share if they put in more effort and time than their partner. In conclusion, there are a variety of ways to resolve conflicts. In lesson 6 we had to summarise how each character might feel about the murder. In lesson 6, we used guilt spilt staging, voice & contrasts, We used one of the forms of stimuli of ‘play scripts’ . In the play script we explored the line ‘ I told him not to come back didn’t I mel’ to understand how all the characters feel guilty. The characters feel guilty because marky has been murdered. All the characters feel conscience-stricken and guilt ridden. The script changes throughout the ending of the play it raises the tension by shortening the dialogue. The characters speech becomes shortened and there words become more scarce and sudden . We then did a police interview by the use of drama medium ; split staging. Split staging can use two or more different levels, and the audience can see characters better if one group is behind the other and using the raised level. Me and shea was the police officers interviewing dig and sophie which in this case was Hodan and Arthur. We asked them questions such as , how do…

According to our textbook, there are two fundamental aspects are important in all conflicts: (1) communication behaviors and (2) the perceptions of those behaviors. Think of the study of conflict as a view through a lens, like the lens of a camera, or through prescription glasses. The lens model of conflict specifies that each person has a view of (1) oneself, (2) the other person, and (3) the relationship. These perceptual pieces form the fundamental views of all conflicts, and combined together they form the mosaic of a particular conflict (Wilmot & Hocker 2010).…

The text suggests several key ideas about conflict It demonstrates that conflict can make individuals work harder to achieve their dreams and can bring out the strength of the human spirit through a sense of hope. It also shows that conflict can sometimes be negative when it can lead to long lasting emotional trauma, when nothing is gained during conflict then it can said to be also negative. Historical events such as the civil rights movement and current events in the media show both the positives and negatives involved in conflict.…
