My teacher took time out of her schedule to assist me in understanding and conquering the content. Though the class was never easy, at the end of the year when I took the Advanced Placement test, I passed with a score of five, the highest score possible. Mrs. Kroll’s energy, sacrifice, and persistence allowed me to see first-hand the impact that a teacher can have on a student. Her class also quickly made me fall in love with history, especially United States history. History teaches me how events have causes, even if the causes are hard to find, and if I look hard enough I can see how an event could be avoided. Time and time again, it may seem that there is only one possible outcome, but history shows that no matter the circumstances, the end result is never a foregone conclusion, and this is my favorite fact about it. My passion for education grew as I grew into leadership roles. I have been involved with Camp Lakewood, a small elementary camp in northern Indiana for the past four years, two as a staff member, one as a counselor, and one as a director. Through working with over 2,200 campers, I experienced the rewards of teaching children new concepts, helping them overcome challenges, and learning how much joy teaching can bring for me and
